Kaitlyn and I met up at a beautiful park in North Augusta, South Carolina for her graduation photo session. She had seen some photos I had taken of her friend and reached out to book her own session -which is always such a compliment! Kaitlyn is heading to the University of South Carolina this Fall, and she wanted to mark this exciting milestone with a mix of traditional and personal photos.
We started the session in a charming wooden covered area, which provided a rustic backdrop for her cap and gown portraits. From there, we made our way toward a scenic bridge that offered a lovely view of the water. This particular park is one of my favorites for photo sessions because of the variety of natural settings.
Along with her cap and gown, Kaitlyn brought a Gamecocks jersey to celebrate her upcoming journey. It added such a fun and personal touch to the shoot. She also brought a sign announcing her new school, which we incorporated into a few of the photos while she proudly wore her jersey. I love when seniors bring props that tell their story and highlight their next chapter, it makes the session even more meaningful.
One of the sweetest parts of the session was when Kaitlyn asked to take some photos with her mom. You could feel the love and pride between them, and capturing those moments was truly special. There’s something so touching about photographing a parent and child during such a transitional time – it’s bittersweet, with the excitement of what’s to come mixed with the tenderness of letting go. I know those portraits of the two of them will be treasured for years.
Overall, it was a joy to work with Kaitlyn. She’s not only photogenic but also brought such positive energy to the shoot. I’m so excited for her as she steps into this next big adventure, and I’m honored to have played a small part in capturing the beginning of that journey.
