As an upcoming high school senior, you’re probably wondering when to schedule your senior photos. Timing can make a huge difference in how your photos look and feel, so it’s important to choose wisely.
Living in Augusta, Georgia means we get some beautiful seasons for portraits, especially if you love warm sunlight, greenery, and natural colors. Planning ahead and booking your session at the right time can also help make your senior year feel less stressful, giving you plenty of time for photos, yearbook deadlines, announcements, and everything else that comes with such a busy season.
Spring is one of my favorite times for senior photos in Augusta. Everything starts blooming, the grass turns green again, and the weather is usually comfortable before the summer heat fully arrives. This season is perfect if you want soft backgrounds, flowers and greenery, and comfortable temperatures for the session.
Spring sessions also work especially well for college grads since many graduation ceremonies happen around this time.
Summer is one of the busiest seasons for senior photography, and for good reason. Once school is out, schedules usually become much more flexible, making it easier to plan your session without the stress of balancing classes, sports, and other senior year activities. Getting your photos done during the summer also means you’ll have one less thing to worry about once your final year of school begins.
Augusta summers can definitely be hot and humid, but the evenings have such a soft, glowy light that photographs beautifully and makes summer sessions completely worth it.

Fall is another amazing option for senior photos. The temperatures cool down, the light becomes softer, and the colors feel warm and rich. This is perfect for you if you love earthy tones, cozy outfits, and golden sunlight.
Fall is a busy time for photographers, so make sure to book in advance if you’re wanting a fall session!
No matter the season, lighting matters so much.
I almost always recommend scheduling sessions during golden hour, the hour after sunrise or the last hour before sunset. This light is softer, warmer, and much more flattering than bright midday sun. It helps create that natural glow, minimizes harsh shadows, and gives your images a dreamy, effortless feel.
The best time for senior photos really depends on the look you want most. Whether you love spring blooms, summer glow, or warm fall tones, there’s no wrong season for photos that feel true to you.
I always encourage seniors to choose a season and location that feels natural to their personality and style. Your session shouldn’t feel stiff or overly posed, it should feel like you.
If you’re thinking about booking senior photos in Augusta or surrounding areas, I’d love to help you plan a session that feels relaxed, natural, and personal to you.
